A word of advice to new teachers

I have been teaching preschool for a public school for the past 17 years! So many new teachers are so overwhelmed with it all! First things first, even  if administration tells you other wise always  follow your gut and your heart! Sometimes decisions concerning education are made from individuals who have never stepped foot into a classroom. Your students needs always come first, no one can ever argue that this is not your job!
Second, breathe! Get to know these precious little gifts around you! Whether you realize it or not they will change your life! Establish a trusting relationship based on respect for one another!
Third, keep it simple! Don't go crazy on teacher done worksheets or theme based materials! Save your time, money and ink! Pretend they don't exist! Think out of the box and use the resources that are all around you! Some of my greatest lessons came from a cardboard box, science experiments, pictures of my students, cooking! You can incorporate so many areas of development with one lesson! Just remember that students use their 5 sense to learn, include activities that utilize them!
Forth, learn your state guidelines (common core) standards! Some of these guidelines may not seem appropriate again follow your gut and refer to #1! Always refer to your standards in your plans and in your curriculum! Your assessments should measure and reflect in your daily activities (small group, one on one, differentiate your activities).
Remember why you wanted to become a teacher let your passion and instinct lead you through all those tough decisions! Everyday you learn and grow and become even better!
The world needs you! ❤️
